Privacy Policy
Last updated:
Journalize's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Journalize does not use Google user data for advertising, does not sell it, and does not transfer it to others except as needed to provide the backup feature you request, to comply with law, or as part of a merger you are notified of.
Journalize ("the app", "we", "us") is an offline-first trading journal for iOS and Android. This policy explains what data the app handles, where it lives, and the choices you have. In short: your journal stays on your device, and any backup goes to your own Google Drive. We do not run a server that stores your journal.
1. Data stored on your device
When you use Journalize, the data you create is stored locally on your device in an on-device database and file storage. This includes:
- Trade records (symbols, entries and exits, position size, dates, notes).
- Trading accounts you define and their computed analytics.
- Images and screenshots you attach to trades.
- App preferences such as theme and settings.
This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly create a backup. You can use the entire app without signing in to any account.
2. Google Sign-In and Google Drive
Backup and restore is an optional feature. If you choose to use it, Journalize asks you to sign in with Google and to grant access to Google Drive. We request the narrowest access that lets the feature work.
What we access
- Basic profile and email from Google Sign-In, so the app can show which account is connected.
- Google Drive access to create, upload, read, and delete the backup archive that Journalize itself creates.
We use this access only to:
- Upload a backup archive (your journal database plus attached images) when you tap Back up.
- List and download that archive when you tap Restore.
- Delete backups you ask the app to remove.
The backup is transferred directly between your device and your Google Drive. It is stored under your own Google account. We do not receive, view, or keep a copy of your journal or your backups on any server we control, because we do not operate one.
3. Limited Use disclosure
Journalize's use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically:
- We only use Google user data to provide and improve the backup and restore feature you interact with.
- We do not transfer Google user data to third parties, except as necessary to provide the feature, comply with applicable law, or as part of a merger or acquisition after notice to you.
- We do not use Google user data for serving advertisements.
- We do not allow humans to read your data unless we have your explicit consent for specific messages, it is necessary for security or to comply with law, or the data is aggregated and anonymized.
4. Data we do not collect
Journalize does not include third-party advertising SDKs, and does not sell your data. We do not build advertising profiles from your trades or your Google account.
5. Photos and media
If you attach screenshots to a trade, the app requests access to your photo library or to a shared image. These images are stored on your device and are only included in a backup archive if you create one. They are not uploaded anywhere else.
6. Your choices and control
- Disconnect Google: sign out inside the app at any time to stop all Drive access.
- Revoke access: remove Journalize from your Google Account at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
- Delete backups: remove the backup archive from your Google Drive whenever you like.
- Delete local data: uninstalling the app removes the on-device journal and images.
7. Data retention and security
Because your data lives on your device and in your own Google Drive, retention is under your control. Google Sign-In tokens are held securely on your device and are cleared when you sign out. Data in transit to Google Drive is protected by Google's encrypted connections. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Children
Journalize is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your region), and we do not knowingly collect their data.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
